What made you interested in natural hair products?
I’ve always been fascinated with hair. Things escalated when I decided to go natural and struggled to find products that catered for my hair type. I’m a problem solver by nature, so learning how to take care of my natural hair and making products that allowed me to do so was an easy and natural decision to make.
What’s your hair journey been like?
I never thought that one simple decision like cutting my hair and avoiding chemicals would lead to a transformation. Once I acquired the patience, dedication and consistency needed to grow and maintain healthy hair, it became easy to apply it to every aspect of my life. My hair journey mimics life so perfectly. You learn very quickly that comparison is the thief of joy and that taking shortcuts is nothing but a time-waster. You also learn to accept that there’ll be good and bad days, to appreciate your strengths and weaknesses and to love and accept yourself for who you are.

When did you start the business?
In August 2016. I had just completed my Masters and now had the free time to explore my newfound skills. In addition, the products I was making were becoming very popular amongst my friends, who encouraged me to turn my hobby into a business.
Tell us more about the concept ‘Women Going Natural’?
I initially started ‘Women Going Natural’ as an Instagram account focused on sharing information about natural hair care. I consider going natural to be a lifestyle. Not in the literal sense, as I myself am not vegan, but in the figurative sense. It has always bothered me that most women feel least beautiful in their natural state and I wanted them to embrace their natural beauty: their God-given personality, their natural body shape, and in their true hair textures.

What sets Sync Naturals apart?
Sync Naturals is an organic and natural brand. The formulation and products are my very own and have been created with the needs of textured-haired women, like myself, in mind. Not only are the products paraben, silicone and sulphate-free, they are also fragrance-free, pH-balanced and contain only natural based ingredients.
Why are you so focused on an organic range?
Organic natural products are better options, as they are environmentally friendly. Synthetic chemicals and fertilisers have a destructive effect on our water, soil and health, as they are not biodegradable. Furthermore, most synthetic ingredients found in cosmetics, including fragrances, are harsh and cause or aggravate sensitivity related conditions such as psoriasis or severe allergic reactions, which can be life-threatening or can lead to permanent hair loss.
